After Project War Path made a post which referred to NFL players who kneel during the national anthem as “overpaid turds,” Instagram blacklisted the company’s account for “hate speech.” The full post includes a picture of NFL players kneeling on ground held up by soldiers — many of whom appear to be wounded or dead and surrounded by a sea of blood — and reads, “This sums it up, Veteran’s defend our freedom and keep us safe. German antitrust watchdog plans action on Facebook this year

German antitrust watchdog plans action on Facebook this year Douglas Busvine AUGUST 27, 2018 / 5:32 AM BONN, Germany (Reuters) - Germany’s antitrust watchdog expects to take first steps this year in its probe against Facebook after finding that the social media giant abused its market dominance to gather data on people without their knowledge or consent. The probe is being closely watched in Europe amid mounting concerns over leaks of data on tens of millions of Facebook users, as well as the extensive use of targeted ads by foreign powers seeking to influence elections in the United States. The Federal Cartel Office objects in particular to how Facebook acquires data on people from third-party apps - including its own WhatsApp and Instagram services - and its online tracking of people who aren’t even members. “We are conscious that this should, and must, go quickly,” cartel office President Andreas Mundt told a news conference on Monday, adding that he hoped to t...

You've Been Making Coffee Wrong Your Whole Life

You've Been Making Coffee Wrong Your Whole Life By Rosie McCall 23 AUG 2018, 17:47 You might think the perfect cup of coffee is an extremely subjective and personal thing, but you would be wrong. Scientists have been busy in the lab working out the proper way to consume your brew – and, yes, there is a right way to do it and it all has to do with water temperature. The research, published in the journal  Food Research International ,  involved seven exceptional tasters from the Centre for Sensory Analysis and Consumer Behaviour at Kansas State University, who spent a great deal of time sipping, slurping, and reviewing coffee to find out what exactly makes a decent cuppa. In total, they analyzed 36 different  flavor attributes  (think: fruity, nutty, and floral) in various samples of hot brewed coffee made with different types of beans and consumed at different temperatures. And it turns out water temperature could be the make or break. The temperature...

Fad Or The Future? Robot-Made Burgers Wow The Crowds In San Francisco By ANNA MANTZARIS August 24, 2018 8:02 AM ET Alex Vardakostas had a dream about creating a robot burger-maker in college. He's now poised to open a restaurant with his Creator Burger robot in September. An audience gathers around the transparent 14-foot-long "culinary instrument" in a restaurant called Creator in San Francisco's SoMa neighborhood. Brioche buns are sliced, buttered and toasted by paddles moving like waves in the ocean. They land in specially designed, compostable hamburger boxes. The buns are topped with fresh produce, sourced from local farms, which is sliced on the spot. Cheese is shredded from blocks and added. The in-machine meat grinder has been calibrated to vertically align the meat with diner's incisors. The 4.5-ounce beef patties are ground from brisket and cooked using the induction method, both sides at once, then slid into the boxes. And the fu...
